EagleGet Extension Not Working: Why It Disappears and What to Do
If the EagleGet extension worked once and then vanished, or never appears at all in a current browser, the most likely explanation is not a setting you changed: it is that the extension was built for an older browser extension framework that current browsers no longer support. That distinction matters, because it tells you which fixes are worth trying and which are a waste of time.
First, identify which problem you have
- The extension is not in the store. Expected. The official extension is no longer listed in the Chrome Web Store, and there is no official listing to reinstall from.
- The extension installs, then gets disabled on restart. Expected on current Chromium browsers. The browser disables extensions that do not meet current framework requirements, particularly ones loaded manually in Developer Mode.
- The extension is present but never catches links. This can be a framework problem, a permissions problem, or a site problem: many modern sites do not expose a plain direct link for the extension to catch in the first place.
If your symptom is the first or second, no EagleGet setting will fix it. Skip to the workaround below.
Things worth checking (five minutes, no risk)
- Confirm EagleGet itself is running. The extension, where it ever worked, was a bridge to the desktop program; without the program running, there is nothing to hand links to.
- Confirm you are looking in the right browser. Extension state is per-browser: installing something in Chrome does not affect Edge, and vice versa.
- Check whether the browser disabled the extension and, if it gives a reason, read it. A message about an unsupported format or a removed extension confirms the framework explanation.
- Try clipboard capture once (see below) before concluding that “EagleGet is broken.” If clipboard capture works, the downloader is fine and only the browser bridge is dead.
Things not worth doing
Do not download a replacement extension from an unfamiliar site, do not roll your browser back to an old version, and do not disable browser security features to force an old extension to load. Each of those trades a minor convenience for a real security risk, and none of them gives you a supported setup. An outdated browser in particular is a far bigger risk than a missing download button.
The workaround that still works: clipboard capture
Keep EagleGet running, enable clipboard monitoring, and copy direct download links from the browser. EagleGet will offer to add them. It is one extra click per download compared with automatic catching, and it works in every current browser. Full steps are in how-to-download-without-the-eagleget-extension.
When to stop troubleshooting and migrate
If automatic link catching is central to how you download — you grab dozens of links a day, or you rely on video detection — then the extension problem is not a bug to fix but a reason to move on. A maintained manager with a current extension gives you back the one-click workflow without running unsupported software. Compare the options honestly in eagleget-vs-idm.

FAQ
Did an EagleGet update break the extension?
No update is involved. The extension stopped working because browsers moved to a new extension framework and the old extension was never updated for it — EagleGet itself has had no updates observed since around 2020.
Will reinstalling EagleGet restore the extension?
Reinstalling restores the desktop program and its bundled extension files, but it does not change the browser’s framework rules. On a current browser, the extension will still be disabled.
Is there a setting in EagleGet to force browser integration?
No setting overrides the browser’s extension policy. If a guide tells you to change a browser security flag to force it, do not follow that guide.
Does this affect Firefox the same way?
Firefox has its own extension system, but the outcome is similar: no current official add-on exists, and legacy files are generally not runnable on current Firefox. Clipboard capture is the shared fallback.
